Why is it that fruit goes bad so quickly once you get it home.?

Its driving me crazy! I buy a basket of strawberries and they mold within two days. Is there any trick that can extend the life of fruit?

One mistake a lot of people make is to wash fruit when they get it home. Only wash it just before you hull it and eat it. If that's not your problem, hull the strawberries and spread them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them.

Then put them into plastic zipper bags.
Reply:It depends on how you are storing stuff. Strawberries should be kept in a container with holes, bananas are usually put on the counter, when actually they should be hanging so they are not touching because that is what makes them go bad somehow. Part of it is because in the grocery store they are given proper temp. conditions, lighting, etc, and at home your kitchen is dark sometimes, the temp fluctuates, etc...stuff goes bad.
Reply:The best way to get fruit that last is to buy them at your local farmers market. They did not get shipped across the US so likely they where just picked the day before or Evan the same day. this means that they will last a hole lot longer.
Reply:bannas leave em in the sun and they'll go rotten
Reply:well try sticking them into the fridge and if u feel that u wont eat all of them in a short time, maybe u shud buy the not so riped yet as they will last longer..i think the heat makes them go bad so fast
