*Fruits Basket* Akito's Gender?

Okay...how come,if Akito is a Girl (which I have been reading...I've been reading the volumes, which are only out to 14), why do they always say "He" when refering in that way to Akito? Why don't they just say "she"... and when does this all come out that "he's" a she?! I am completely confused now... Egad.

Her mother decided she would have to be raised as a boy becasue she was jealous of Akira's love for Akito (akira was Akito's dad) Ren (akito's mom) said she would not delivery the baby unless it was a boy so Akira believed her and agreed to Akito being raised as a boy. Only Shigure, Kureno, Hatori and Ayame know about it and that's cuz they were alive when Akito was born. Ritsu was too young to remember. So as far as most of the juunishi know Akito is male. Akito's true gender is reveled in vol. 17 when Kureno told Tohru that he couldn't leave a crying GIRL (when his curse was broken) in vol. 20 there is a scary pic of Tohru and Akito in dresses... it's gonna give me nightmares....
Reply:It's because most of the Junnishi don't know about it. Her mother decided when she was born that she would be raised as a boy. The only ones who know about it are Shigure, Ayame, Hatori, and Kureno, since they were old enough at that point to understand. It's a very hush hush secret.
